BHOPAL: The Congress has begun to prepare for the upcoming by-elections for three assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat, the dates for which are yet to be announced.
Member of Parliament Nand Kumar Singh Chouhan and three legislators Brajendra Singh Rathore, Kalawati Bhuria and Jugal Kishore lost their lives to Covid-19.
MPCC president Kamal Nath has sought feedback from the party leaders of these four constituencies.
When Nath returns to Bhopal on June 7, he will hold a meeting with the party leaders of those four constituencies and distribute responsibilities among them.
A survey will be conducted for giving tickets to party candidates.
Nath also directed the party leaders to look into the caste and other aspects that hold the key to the by-elections in these areas.
The Congress wants to keep the independent legislator Surendra Singh Shera because of the Khandwa Lok Sabha bypoll.
Former state president of the party Arun Yadav is the main contender for ticket from Khandwa. Yadav is not on good terms with Shera.
Nath is trying to bring them together. The Congress is mulling over giving tickets to the son of Rathor, Nitendra Rathor, from Prithvipur.
Former state president Kantilal Bhuria has been given the responsibility of Jobat assembly constituency.
Nath is going to hold meeting with the party leaders from Vindhya region for the Raigaon assembly constituency.
Out of the four seats, two are with the BJP and two with the Congress.
Nath wants to take the advantage of the situation arising out of the corona pandemic.
The Election Commission has, however, decided not to hold elections in these four constituencies now.
As the Covid-19 infection is waning, the commission may hold elections in those four constituencies in coming days.
The Congress is feeling rejuvenated after the party's victory in the Damoh by-election.
Thus, the party wants to plunge into action in these by-elections with full strength so that they may become more viable as opposition.
