BHOPAL: The charge of attempt to murder has been framed against SIMI operative Abu Faizal alias ‘doctor’ in district court on Wednesday in connection with Khandwa Jail break. The SIMI activist was on December 25, 2015 convicted for killing Sitaram Yadav, a constable of anti-terrorist squad of Madhya Pradesh Police, in Khandwa in November 2009.
Seven members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) had made an escape from the Khandwa Jail in the state. Accused of atrocious crimes including murder, the members had of the banned outfit stabbed two constables, looted rifles and fled with wireless sets. The seven under-trial prisoners in the earlier incident were identified as Amjad, Aslam, Zakir, Mehboob (all from Khandwa), Ejazuddin (of Narsinh Ward, Kareli), Abu Faizal (from Juhu, Andheri in Mumbai) and Aabid Mirza. Advocate Zinat said, “Attempt to murder charges have been framed against Abu Faizal in connection with Khandwa Jail break. The SIMI operatives had attacked the policemen and escaped from Khandwa Jail.” These fugitives used bedsheets as ropes to scale the towering wall before escaping on two bikes parked in the jail premises. They had also broken the bathroom wall in their escape bid. Two constables who confronted them had suffered stab injuries. There was also an exchange of fire by the security forces who tried to prevent the escape, but it ended in vain.
