Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh): Around 100 people, including women, children, and elderly villagers, fell sick after eating food at a terahvi (13th-day death ritual) ceremony in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district on Wednesday.

The incident is of Shivpuri's Chirari village under Karaira tehsil.

According to information, the incident happened on Wednesday night, and many complained of vomiting and loose motions.

Health department teams rushed to the village as soon as they received the information. Two teams started treating the affected people on the spot.

The ceremony was organised by Jasrath Gurjar, son of Kamal Singh Gurjar, a local priest who recently passed away.

People from Chirari and nearby Siddhpura village had attended the event and eaten the meal served there.

By Thursday morning, over 50 villagers had fallen ill. Nayab Tehsildar Om Prakash Tiwari visited the village and called for health officials. So far, 55 people from Chirari and 25 from Siddhpura have been treated.

In the initial investigation, officials suspect that spoiled ghee used in the food may have caused the problem. The food safety team collected samples for testing.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Sanjay Risheshwar said that a special medical team was also sent from the district headquarters.

All patients are stable, and no one has needed to be referred to a hospital outside the village.

The health department and administration are monitoring the situation and continuing treatment.
