Burma Burma, the authentic Burmese restaurant and Tea Room, heralded the Burmese New Year festivities via a special, limited edition Thingyan Menu at their Mumbai outpost in Kala Ghoda.

The fourth edition of the Thingyan menu took inspiration from the countryside of Myanmar, after interacting and travelling with the locals in Central and Southern parts of the country, small hilly and coastal regions like Hpa – An, Mawlamyine (Burma – Thai border), Mon, Kayah, Kayin States.

Our mains arrive, in a large leaf-coated basket, comprising a range of dishes such as the Bamboo shoot and endamame stir fry, Tofu, water chestnut and lotus stem stir fry, Loikaw Rice, Si chet khowsuey, and corn salad. All piquant but we are really excited by the desserts that follow… There’s the Yay-gei-tho, coconut ice cream, peanuts, ice apple, nata de coco, black grass jelly that is a lovely mix of tastes and textures. The Vegan Passionfruit ice cream comes surrounded by dry ice that adds its bit of drama.

The festival has since ended by that’s no reason to stay away from the authentic delights of this iconic restaurant which has made its mark on every food guide and must-eat list of the city.
