Under Operation Lagaam, the Uttarakhand Police have been stopping vehicles and conducting thorough checks to curb road rage cases. Recently, cops at Haridwar came across a car being driven by young students. The four-wheeler, a black Scorpio, carried unacceptable modifications or fillers, which were scrapped at the checkpoint.

The police officials removed black film from the car windows and pulled out stickers boasting political affiliation.

In a now-viral video from the police action, the uniformed officers are seen questioning the driver and passengers inside the Scorpio about its owner and the objectionable stickers and black film. The car also had a BJP flag fixed on the bonnet.

Despite the policeman questioning them, they didn't immediately step out of the car.

"Vidhyak uncle hai humare..."

Seconds later, a young boy onboard claimed that the political designation of an MLA (Vidhayak) referred to his uncle. The cops then informed him that usage of such stickers on vehicles is prohibited. "Hum unke ladke hain jinki gaadi hai (I am the son of the car's owner). Vidhayak uncle hain humare (My uncle is the MLA)," he said.

Black film, hooter, political stickers

The car was stopped on Sunday at Chandi Ghat in Haridwar, where the cops removed black films, hooter, and stickers of MLA and Block Pramukh from the vehicle. According to local media reports, the cops seized the black Scorpio (UP50OD0801) and issued a challan for the traffic rule violation.

The police made it clear that violation of rules in the name of VIP show-off will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Operation Lagaam

Uttarakhand police launched 'Operation Lagaam’ to curb rising crime involving outside vehicles, following a demand from locals for stricter checks and tight police action. Reportedly, 587 challans were issued within one week.
