The video opened showing two men, including one uniformed security personnel, guarding the gate. With a stick in one hand and the door handle in another, they tried restricting the exit of these children. However, the inmates broke open the gate and ran outside.

Sources told news agency PTI that the inmates had damaged multiple items of the remand home, including CCTV cameras, before making their way out.

"Approximately 21 children caused a disturbance and broke out from the facility. Upon receiving information about the incident, the concerned authorities, including the Sub-Divisional Officer and police officials, were immediately alerted", Deputy Commissioner, Kuldeep Chaudhary told news service IANS.

4 traced and brought back to remand home

Of the 21 minor inmates who escaped around 6.30 pm on Tuesday, four were later tracked by the authorities and brought back to the remand home in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district.

Bahman Tuti of the Chaibasa Police told TOI that a probe was launched to trace and apprehend absconding inmates.

Opposition takes dig at govt, demands high-level investigation

Former CM of Jharkhand and current leader of opposition, Babulal Marandi, reacted to the incident and called it a "Serious lapse in the security system". Taking a dig at the government, he wrote, "This incident in Chaibasa shows that the government is just doing a formality in the name of juvenile home".

Marandi also urged for high-level investigation and strict action in this matter. "@HemantSorenJMM Sir, all the runaway juveniles should be brought back as soon as possible and proper counselling should be arranged for them, otherwise they may become a threat to the society. Why did these children run away and due to whose negligence did they run away? A high level investigation must be conducted and action must be taken (translated from Hindi)", the BJP leader posted.
