A throwback moment from last year’s Makar Sankranti celebrations in Ahmedabad has resurfaced online and is once again setting social media abuzz during Makar Sankranti 2026.
In January last year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had celebrated Makar Sankranti at Shantiniketan Society in Memnagar, Ahmedabad, where he was seen flying kites from the rooftop of a residential building. He was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and the visuals from the event had drawn large crowds, with people gathering on nearby rooftops to catch a glimpse of the senior BJP leader during Gujarat’s most loved festival.
Sharing moments from the celebration back then, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had posted on X, “Amit Shah celebrated Makar Sankranti with the locals at Shantiniketan Society in Memnagar, and extended best wishes to everyone on this festival.” He had also mentioned that the society was decorated with colourful kites and rangoli, thanking residents for the warm welcome.
While the images from the celebration had gone viral last year, one unexpected moment stole the spotlight, a local man managing to cut Amit Shah’s kite mid-air. Now, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti 2026, that clip has gone viral all over again.
The video was reshared by Gaurang Bharadwaj, who revealed that it was his kite that cut the Home Minister’s patang. The year-old clip shows the moment Shah’s kite snaps during the friendly but fiercely competitive kite-flying battle, instantly becoming a fan-favourite example of how no one is spared during Uttarayan in Gujarat.
As the video resurfaced, social media users reacted with humour. One user commented, “Is he still alive???”, joking about the audacity of cutting the Home Minister’s kite. Another wrote, “Amit Kaka ki Patang Katli Re,” a line that continues to be repeated across platforms whenever the clip reappears.
