A humpback whale swallowed kayaker 24-year-old Adrián Simancas, who was kayaking in the Chilean Patagonia with his father. Seconds after engulfing the young kayaker, the whale released him unharmed. Simancas had assumed he was dead when the chilling attack took place, but fortunately, he was spit out sooner.

The incident took place last Saturday when he was in his yellow kayak to explore the sea with his father, Dell.

While the moment resulted in some panic, Dell asked his son to be calm when the whale approached him and opened its mouth to swallow him. Dell made his video, in which he was heard saying, "Stay calm, stay calm".

"I thought I was dead..."

In a report by BBC, the kayaker who survived the whale attack said he first felt he wouldn't come out alive. He believed he was eaten and dead. "I thought I was dead...I thought it had eaten me, that it had swallowed me", Simancas said.

He described the “terror” and revealed fearing the creature might pounce on his father who was kayaking only a few metres apart. "When I came up and started floating, I was scared that something might happen to my father too, that we wouldn’t reach the shore in time, or that I would get hypothermia", the 24-year-old kayaker told The Associated Press.

In a similar incident, two women kayaking at Avila Beach were briefly swallowed by the creature and released back into the waters sooner. The incident was reported in 2020 when a humpback whale attacked the female kayakers but couldn't prey on them with their large craft, throwing them back into the sea.
