Lucknow, September 1: The growing pace of exports in Uttar Pradesh is no longer just a story of bottles and products reaching foreign markets. It begins in sugarcane fields, molasses and grain, moves through industries, and from there reaches foreign markets through packaging, storage and transportation.
The Yogi government’s three-year Excise Export Policy 2026-29 has given fresh momentum to this entire export chain. During the first quarter of financial year 2026-27 (April-June 2026), the state’s excise exports recorded a growth of 45.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, while national growth during the same period stood at 18.3 percent. Thus, the state’s growth was more than double the national average. In volume terms, the state’s exports increased by 163 percent. The most significant achievement was that Uttar Pradesh registered an additional growth of nearly 39.9 lakh US dollars.
Agricultural products have also played an important role in this expanding export chain. A total of 25,000 quintals of molasses was exported from Basti to foreign markets, generating nearly 5 lakh US dollars in foreign exchange earnings. Since molasses falls under a different duty classification, these earnings are in addition to the figures mentioned above. This means that agricultural produce grown in the fields is no longer confined to local markets but, after processing, is becoming a direct part of the global marketplace. Along with the increase in exports, units in Uttar Pradesh supplied 1.64 crore more bottles to other states between April and July 2026 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, registering growth of about 45.7 percent.
The growing export potential has not only attracted fresh investment to the state but has also activated existing industrial capacity. United Breweries in Unnao and Mount Everest Breweries in Hardoi are establishing new units. In Farrukhabad, Woodpecker GreenAgri Nutrients has established a unit. Allied Blenders and Distillers has restarted a previously closed unit in Moradabad. Kiyan Distillery of Gorakhpur has applied for a beverage distillery and brewery in addition to ethanol production. According to departmental figures, Radico Khaitan is also shifting export production from other states to its Sitapur and Rampur plants.
Between April and June 2026, India recorded excise exports worth approximately 10.17 crore US dollars. Uttar Pradesh’s share stood at about 127.8 lakh US dollars, compared to 87.9 lakh US dollars during the same period last year. In other words, the state achieved an additional increase of nearly 39.9 lakh US dollars in just one year. UP’s share in national exports also rose from 10.2 percent to 12.6 percent, placing the state third in the country after Maharashtra and Punjab. The state recorded growth in each month of the quarter.
Excise Commissioner Dr. Adarsh Singh stated that the impact of export growth is not limited to excise units alone. The upstream segment of the industry is linked to agricultural products such as sugarcane, molasses and grain, while downstream sectors include glass bottles, packaging, caps, labelling, storage and transportation. As production and exports increase, economic activities expand across all these sectors. In this way, the export policy has accelerated a broad export chain in Uttar Pradesh, stretching from farms to factories and from factories to foreign markets.
