With Nick Aldis unable to oversee the contract signing between Cody and Owens, Shawn Michaels stepped in as the official for the event in San Antonio. The WWE legend received a warm welcome from the fans. As Cody and Owens entered the arena, the crowd's reactions were split—Cody was met with cheers, while Owens faced loud boos.
