Ahead of the much-anticipated IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a video of the heartwarming moment involving Rohit Sharma and a devoted fan went viral on social media.
In the video the fan approached Rohit and tried to touch his feet as a mark of respect for the player who has inspired millions. The fan brought a jerseys, featuring Rohit in his Mumbai Indians and Indian team attire, hoping for his autograph on both. When signing the Indian team jersey, Rohit paused momentarily, ensuring the national flag on the jersey was treated with the respect it deserved before signing it. Afterward, the fan took photo with her idol.
Mumbai Indians gear up for challenging season
Mumbai Indians had a challenging 2024 season, finishing at the bottom of the points table with just four wins out of 14 matches. The season was overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the captaincy change, with Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as the team’s leader. This decision didn't sit well with MI fans, and Hardik faced boos during several home games.
However, Hardik has since made a strong comeback on the international stage, playing crucial roles in India’s victories in the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy, within just nine months. As he returns to lead MI in IPL 2025, Hardik will be aiming to redeem himself. However he will miss the opening match against CSK after being handed ban for slow overrate last year.
In Hardik's absence, Suryakumar Yadav, who also captains India’s T20I team, will take charge of Mumbai Indians for their opening match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Mumbai will also be without Jasprit Bumrah, who is still recovering from the back injury he suffered during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January.
