The entire nation is celebrating D Gukesh's remarkable achievement after he won the World Chess Championship by defeating Ding Liren at the FIDE World Chess Championship on Thursday. Gukesh has now become the youngest grandmaster to win this prestigious title at the age of 18. D. Gukesh was born into a Telugu family but was raised in Chennai.

Many public figures took to social media to congratulate Gukesh. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his pride by posting on X, "Congratulations to @DGukesh on becoming the youngest-ever World Chess Champion at 18! Your remarkable achievement continues India's rich chess legacy and helps Chennai reaffirm its place as the global Chess Capital by producing yet another world-class champion. Tamil Nadu is proud of you!”

However, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu created a stir with his Telugu Boy comment in his congratulatory message for Gukesh on X. He wrote, "Hearty congratulations to our very own Telugu boy, Indian Grandmaster @DGukesh, on scripting history in Singapore by becoming the world's youngest chess champion at just 18! The entire nation celebrates your incredible achievement. Wishing you many more triumphs and accolades in the decades to come!"

The comment sparked a debate on social media, leading to a "credit war" between the two state chief ministers. Netizens criticized both leaders for trying to claim credit for Gukesh’s success and questioned whether he is Tamilian or Telugu by birth.

There were mixed reactions from X users, with some asserting that Gukesh is from Tamil Nadu while others insisted he hails from Andhra Pradesh.

At just 18, Gukesh defeated China’s Ding Liren in the final game to secure the prestigious title and also became the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to achieve the feat.
