Manchester City's misery in the Premier League continued after Aston Villa registered 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday. Goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers ensure Villa picked up all three points at home. City who struggled to pose a threat for much of the match, got a stoppage-time consolation goal through Phil Foden. The latest loss for Pep Guardiola's team was their ninth defeat in 12 games in all competitions.

Where does Aston Villa stand on the points table after the win over Manchester City?

Unai Emery’s side leapfrog City into fifth spot following the win over Premier League champions. Aston Villa are now outside the top four only on goal difference, while Manchester City are now 11 points behind leaders Liverpool as their hopes of defending the crown slowly look to be slipping further out of their hands.

Aston Villa vs Manchester City match highlights

The game started with Villa on the front foot. John McGinn quickly dispossessed Josko Gvardiol to set up Duran for an early long-range shot, which City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega did well to tip wide in the opening seconds. Ortega was once again called into action from the resulting corner, denying Pau Torres' header by clawing it off the line and then tipping it onto the crossbar.

Villa continued to press and eventually broke through midway through the first half. Morgan Rogers picked up the ball in midfield and drove a powerful pass into Duran, who finished first time, giving Villa a deserved lead.

City were nearly punished again shortly after the restart. Duran found the back of the net in the 51st minute, but his strike was ruled out for offside. However, Villa doubled their lead just after the hour mark. Rogers picked up the ball deep in his own half, breezed past City's midfield, and exchanged passes with McGinn before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

As the match moved into stoppage time, Savinho’s mazy run opened up space for Foden, who capitalized on a bit of luck as the ball ricocheted back to him after a deflection. The City forward made no mistake, netting his first Premier League goal of the season.

Despite Foden's late strike, Villa held firm to claim the victory, leaving Manchester City to reflect on another disappointing result.
