Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi came down hard on Babar Azam's team after their humiliating defeat against Afghanistan in Match 21 of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Monday.

Pakistan went down by 8 wickets after failing to defend 282 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This was their first ever ODI defeat against Afghanistan and third in a row in this World Cup.

Afridi slams Pakistani players

And Afridi feels they will find it tough to return to winning ways if they don't have a positive body language on the field.

"Pakistan cannot win with this body language! Babar Azam's body language in the ground and during the press conference was down.

"We keep waiting for miracles to happen, but miracles only happen with those who are brave and who take chances," Afridi said on a news channel in Pakistan.

Captain Babar Azam under fire

Afridi also took aim at Pakistan captain Babar over the lacklustre fielding of Pakistan.

"The captain is everything in a cricket team. If the captain leads from the front on the field, talks to his players and supports them then the rest of the team also responds and gets active," Afridi added.

Pakistan's tough road ahead

Pakistan have made life difficult for themselves in this World Cup after the three successive defeats against India, Australia and now Afghanistan. They will have to win all of their remaining four matches to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

The Men in Green however, have a tough road ahead as they will have to beat South Africa, Bangladesh, New Zealand and defending champions England in their remaining matches, which will be nothing short of an uphill task for them.
