Following the abrupt cancellation of the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala on May 7, the BCCI has arranged special transportation to safely relocate players, support staff, and match officials. According to India Today report, Vande Bharat train has been organised to move both teams from Dharamsala to Delhi, prioritising their safety amid rising cross-border tensions.

The train will depart from Una, the nearest railway station to Dharamsala, carrying the squads and officials away from the conflict-affected region. The decision comes after multiple reported attacks from Pakistan in different parts of India, which prompted heightened security concerns across the country.

The match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium was halted during the 11th over of Punjab Kings' innings when a floodlight tower suddenly shut down. While spectators initially assumed it was a technical fault, two additional towers soon failed, plunging parts of the stadium into darkness. As a precaution, the crowd was evacuated.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia spoke to India Today, confirming that the board is actively monitoring the situation and taking necessary precautions to ensure everyone's safety.

"The situation is not stable at the moment, and that is why we have cancelled today’s match — not just in Dharamsala, but also due to escalating tensions from the neighbouring country.

"The safety of players, spectators, and support staff is our top priority. We will do everything that is in the best interest of the nations involved.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and will make further decisions accordingly," he said.

Will IPL 2025 continue?

Following the tensions between India and Pakistan BCCI is yet to decide on the future of IPL 2025. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla while speaking to The Indian Express said," We are monitoring the situation, seeking the Government’s advice, and will take the final decision on the IPL tomorrow. The situation is changing day by day. We will do whatever we are told and inform all stakeholders. At the moment, our priority is the safety of all players, fans and stakeholders,”

The reporter also state that BCCI is also keeping its options open, including the possibility of pausing the league or revising the tournament itinerary.
