Once regarded as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw had a dream start to his cricket career, impressing both in domestic and international cricket. However, the former U-19 World Cup-winning captain has seen a drastic fall in his career graph.

His struggles became evident when he went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction and was left out of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy squads. Punjab Kings' batter Shashank Singh shared his thoughts on Shaw's situation.

Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast Shashank said, "Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything. I know him since he was 13, since I've played club cricket with him in Bombay [Mumbai]. If you ask me what's wrong with him, he has a different perspective on few things. Maybe, he can change something about his work ethic, maybe sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM, maybe improve his diet. If he can accept and change some of these things, it would be the best thing for Indian cricket."

Prithvi Shaw’s recent performance

After being released by Delhi Capitals (DC), Shaw failed to find a buyer in the IPL 2025 auction, despite having a base price of ₹75 lakh. This came as a surprise to many, considering his talent and past performances.

Despite his exclusion from major domestic tournaments, Shaw showed glimpses of his ability in the DY Patil T20 2025 tournament, where he captained Route Mobile. He scored 168 runs in three innings at an impressive average of 56 and a strike rate of 182.61.

Shashank Singh’s Own Rise in IPL

On the other hand, Shashank Singh’s career has been on an upward trajectory. He was among the two players retained by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for ₹5.5 crore. After an initial mix-up at the mini-auction, where his signing was initially unplanned, he proved his worth by finishing as PBKS’ highest run-scorer of the season. He amassed 354 runs in 14 innings, averaging 44.25 with a strike rate of 164.65, including two fifties.

Shashank will next be seen in action when Punjab Kings face Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, on March 25 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
