Punjab Kings' promising all-rounder Shashank Singh has picked Rohit Sharma as the skipper he wishes to play under. The 33-year-old stated that even Rohit Sharma's one-liners are comical and that the veteran believes in giving players ample chances, further solidifying his wish to play under him.
Shashank announced his arrival in IPL 2024 as he aggregated 354 runs in 14 matches for the Punjab Kings at 44.25 alongside a strike rate of 164.65. Although his efforts weren't enough to propel the franchise to the playoffs, the owners retained him ahead of IPL 2025. Rohit, meanwhile, has etched his legacy in the IPL by winning five titles for the Mumbai Indians, having taken over as captain in 2013.
Speaking to Shubhankar Mishra on his podcast, Shashank said the below when asked about which captain he would love to play under:
"Rohit Sharma. Suna bohot hai Rohit Sharma ke baare mein, sab bolte hain players ko kaafi chances dete hain, back karte hain. Kaafi smart captain hain, unke jo one-liners hote hain, woh bhi kaafi funny hote hain. Toh unke under khelna hai. Us Gaali mein timepass bhi toh rahega. Jaise Mahi bhai bolte they, Mishra kahan ghoom raha hai, ya Shami bhai ko kuch bolte they."
(Everyone says that he [Rohit] backs his players to the hilt; gives them plenty of chances. He is a very smart captain. His one-liners (on the field) are also quite funny. If you ask me one captain I would want to play under, it will be Rohit Sharma. He is from Bombay. I have also batted with him once. He was not the captain back then. I want to play under his leadership, that's my wish.)
