India captain Suryakumar Yadav displayed why he is amongst the best batters in the shortest format of the game. With the batting order collapsing in the IND vs USA game, Yadav held the innings together with a fine half-century at his home ground Wankhede. The 35-year-old also went past 1,000 T20I runs as captain for the Men in Blue.
Suryakumar Yadav walked into bat in the final over of the powerplay and saw his teammates depart in quick succession. India slipped to 46/4 at the end of the powerplay. Given the collapse, the skipper went about his innings in sedate fashion, trying to take the game as deep as possible.
India were then reduced to 77/6 but Suryakumar Yadav did not lose his focus. The 35-year-old built a partnership with Axar Patel to guide India past the 100-run mark.
With the final few overs of the game, Suryakumar unleashed all his attacking strokes. He took particular liking to Saurabh Netravalkar, who travelled on his return to the Wankhede.
In his 49 ball stay at the crease, Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten, scoring 84 in one of the greatest innings by an Indian in T20 World Cups. With his team down and out, the 35-year-old single-handedly pulled them out of the rut and helped them to a competitive total.
