India assumed their first innings batting after bundling out for England for 353 after visitors resumed their batting at 302/7. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja wrapped up the visitors' innings by picking remaining three wickets.
Ollie Robinson continued his good outing from previous as he recorded his maiden Test fifty in 81 balls and formed a 102-run partnership with Joe Root to take England past 300-run mark early collapse on Day 1. Meanwhile, Root silenced his critics with his gritty unbeaten knock of 122 off 274 balls.
Ravindra Jadeja scalped four wickets and finished figures of 4/67 in 32.3 overs, while debutant Akash Deep registered his Test figures of 3/83 in 19 overs.
India lose early wicket in skipper Rohit Sharma
India didn't have a great start to their first innings as the hosts lost an early wicket in captain Rohit Sharma for 4, dismissed England veteran pacer James Anderson for 4 at 4/1.
After Indian captain's early dismissal, Yashasvi Jaiswal was joined by Shubman Gill at the crease to take charge of hosts' first innings batting. The young duo steadied India's ship to ensure no fall of wickets towards the end of the second session.
Jaiswal looked very solid and already showed his capability to convert his good starts into huge scores while Gill played defensively to lay a foundation for long innings.
At the end of first session, India posted a total of 34/1 in 10 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill batting on 27 and 4. For England, veteran pacer picked a wicket and conceded 15 runs in his fours spell.
