Day 2 of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s offered fans a compelling mix of gritty batting and high-quality bowling as both sides battled for control in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. England, having won the toss and elected to bat first, posted a strong total of 387 runs in 112.3 overs, led by a masterful century from Joe Root.

Root, once again proving his class in red-ball cricket, anchored England’s innings with a patient 104 off 199 deliveries, hitting 10 boundaries. His century was a crucial part of England’s buildup, providing stability even as wickets fell at intervals around him. Supporting knocks came from Brydon Carse and young Jamie Smith, both of whom chipped in with half-centuries, pushing England to a competitive total.

However, it was Jasprit Bumrah who made sure England didn’t run away with the game. The Indian pace spearhead was at his best, claiming 5 wickets for 74 runs in a commanding 27-over spell. Bumrah’s precision and variation were key in curbing England’s momentum, especially during the middle and lower order phases.

In response, India closed out Day 2 at 145 for 3 in 43 overs, trailing by 242 runs. KL Rahul led the resistance with a composed half-century, staying unbeaten on 53. He was joined at the crease by Rishabh Pant, who looked steady on 19* as the pair navigated the final session.

England’s pace trio of Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes picked up a wicket each to keep India in check. Despite a few early setbacks, the visitors will feel hopeful with a settled pair at the crease and plenty of batting to come.
