Root, once again proving his class in red-ball cricket, anchored England’s innings with a patient 104 off 199 deliveries, hitting 10 boundaries. His century was a crucial part of England’s buildup, providing stability even as wickets fell at intervals around him. England’s pace trio of Chris Woakes, Jofra Archer, and Ben Stokes picked up a wicket each to keep India in check. Despite a few early setbacks, the visitors will feel hopeful with a settled pair at the crease and plenty of batting to come.
