Sydney Thunder all-rounder Daniel Sams has spoken for the first time since his horrific clash against Cameron Bancroft. Daniel Sams posted on his Instagram handle: “Thanks for all the well wishes over the last couple of days. Has given me a lot of gratitude for the support I have around me. A massive thank you to the Sydney Thunder staff, Perth Scorchers staff, and CA medical staff for looking after Cameron and me. I’m on the mend and can’t wait to be back. Go well tonight, lads.”
Sams and Bancroft injuries after collision on field
Sams and Bancroft suffered nasty injuries after colliding on the field during the Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers match at Optus Stadium in Perth on January 3. The incident took place in the 16th over as both players, focused on the ball, collided while attempting to take a catch
Bancroft was left bleeding from his nose but he managed to walk off the field independently. Sams on the other hand had to be stretchered off, sparking immediate concern among teammates gathered at the boundary.
Sydeny Thunder later provided an update on both players and state that Cameron Bancroft sustained a concussion, a fractured nose, and a fractured right scapula. On the other hand, Daniel Sams suffered a concussion and will follow Cricket Australia’s return-to-play protocols.
Dan Christian features for Sydney Thunder as replacement player
Former Australian all-rounder and current Sydney Thunders assistant coach Dan Christian signed as a replacement player for the team. This announcement came during the Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes match on Sunday.
Christian made his comeback to BBL on Monday against Brisbane Heat. The all-rounder scored 23 runs of 15 balls which included two sixes. At the time of writing Strikers posted 173/8 in their 20 overs.
