The recent security lapse during the New Zealand vs Bangladesh Champions Trophy match has raised concerns over Pakistan's ability to host major cricket events. Another controversy has come into the limelight in which over 100 personnel from the Punjab Police are reportedly been dismissed from service.

An official from Punjab Police, speaking to PTI, confirmed the dismissals. He said," The police officials were assigned to provide security for teams travelling between Qaddafi Stadium Lahore and designated hotels but either remained absent or outright refused to take up their responsibilities"

The IGP Punjab, Usman Anwar, has considered matters, and he has ordered a probe against the cops who are under the radar. The official went on to say, "There is no room for negligence when it comes to the security of international events." According to the report several local media reports suggest that the sacked cops were feeling overburdened due to longer duty hours.

With security arrangements already under the spotlight, these developments have further questioned Pakistan’s capability to ensure the safety of teams and spectators during global tournaments.

No Terror threat to Champions Trophy

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has dismissed reports about a possible terror threat to the Champions Trophy tournament in Pakistan.

In an interview with Geo News on Monday, the minister said: “I would like to state on record that Pakistan is peacefully and very ably hosting the ICC Champions Trophy. Our grounds are full, we have fans from all over the world, the crowds are jubilant, our streets are filled with people who are celebrating the victory of cricket.”
