The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) faced heavy criticism a serious security lapse during the New Zealand vs Bangladesh match in Rawalpindi. The spectator breached security and ran onto the field to hug New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra. Reports suggest the intruder was carrying a photo of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan leader Saad Rizvi.
PCB 's statement on security breach
The PCB released a statement acknowledging the breach and assuring fans that security around all venues would be significantly tightened. The statement said, “The PCB has taken serious note of the security breach. Ensuring the safety of players and officials remains our top priority. We have engaged with local security agencies, who have assured us of increased personnel around the field of play at all venues and stricter access control measures,"
The PCB Also confirmed that the fan was arrested and banned from attending matches across venues “The individual was arrested and presented before a court of law. Additionally, he has been banned for life from attending matches at any cricket stadium in the country,”
Despite the disruption, Ravindra smashed a brilliant century in his very first Champions Trophy match. New Zealand not only regiustered a convincing win over Bangladesh but also secured semi-final place alongwith India from Group A. New Zealand is set to face India in Dubai on March 2.
