Kolkata, April 2: Indian explosive opener and Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma took his team to a flying start and smashed the World No 1 spinner Varun Chakravarthy for 25 runs in his first over of the KKR Vs SRH IPL 2026 clash at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and invited SRH to bat first. Batting as per their reputation, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma gave an explosive start to the match.
Abhishek Sharma welcomed his teammate and the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy with an expensive over. Varun came in to bowl the 5th over in the match in which he was smashed 25 runs with 6,6,4,4,4 and a wide.
Sunrisers Hyderabad lost Travis Head at a score of 82/1 in only the sixth over of the match and their skipper Ishan Kishan has stepped on to the crease. Ishan Kishan has also entered the IPL 2026 season with a magnificent performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
However, Abhishek Sharma has been searching for form in the past few games, including the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 which he would like to forget, except the finals against New Zealand in which he managed to score quick runs and help India lift the trophy.
Abhishek Sharma struggled in the first game of IPL 2026 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Abhishek scored only 7 runs off 8 balls and the team lost the opening game. They are eager to find their first win in the IPL 2026 season and Abhishek Sharma will be the key. Currently, he is going strong after scoring 47 off only 19 balls.
