NCP-SP workers staged a protest at the collector's office on Monday over the "rising" crimes against women in Pune. The protest was led by the party's state women's wing president Rohini Khadse and Prashant Jagtap, the party's Pune city chief. During the protest, they demanded stricter laws and immediate police action in cases of crimes against women, along with the implementation of self-defence training in schools and colleges.

Speaking to the media, Khadse said, "There is a saying 'Pune tithe kay une (Nothing is lacking in Pune)' but now one has to say 'Pune tithe gunhech gunhe (There are only crimes in Pune). When one switches on the TV, there are reports of crimes against women in Pune every day. It wouldn't be wrong to suggest that Pune should be renamed 'Gunhe (crimes)'."

"Through our protest, we demand that the ruling Mahayuti government implement the Shakti Act which was passed during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. It's been over three years, and the law hasn't been implemented. We demand answers. Why are the police not taking strict action against criminals? Why are the police delaying the registration of FIRs? Victims are not getting justice in time. Justice delayed is equal to justice denied," she added.

Khadse further expressed that the government should implement a course of self-defence in every school and college of Pune for female students. "We are protesting here for our ladki sisters. Only running the Ladki Bahin scheme will not assure women's safety. The BJP is responsible for the increasing crime rate in Pune city," she said.

Prashant Jagtap alleged that the BJP is just misusing their powers. "The recent crimes in the city, especially against the women, highlight the failure of police administration and the state government. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis should resign if he cannot save our sisters and mothers," he added.
