Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who was in Pune for the Paani Foundation event, met the family of the murdered sarpanch of Massajog, Santosh Deshmukh.
Aamir Khan met Santosh Deshmukh's family and offered his condolences. The actor became emotional during the moment and tightly hugged Santosh Deshmukh's son, Viraj.
Massajog murder
Beed, in December last year, came in the news after the murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, who was abducted, tortured, and killed for trying to stop an extortion attempt against an energy firm operating a windmill project there.
Deshmukh's murder on December 9, 2024, had acquired a caste angle, as the victim was a Maratha, while most of the accused in the killing are Vanjari, a dominant community in the Beed region.
The murder led to a huge political uproar, which even led to the resignation of minister Dhananjay Munde after his close aide was held as the primary accused in the case. Now, the family of Deshmukh is demanding justice for the late sarpanch.
Paani foundation event
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his ex-wife, director Kiran Rao, attended the Paani Foundation event in Pune.
The Paani Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that works on drought prevention and watershed management in Maharashtra. It was founded by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao.
Khan through his NGO has been helping select regions of Maharashtra to eradicate the drought situation, which has been adding to the woes of farmers of the region.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday said that there is need for increased capital investment in the agriculture sector, which should go ahead of relief and rehabilitation measures currently seen for incidents of crop damage, low yield and excess rains.
