The ongoing flyover and grade separator project at Mukundrao Ambedkar Chowk (Vishrantwadi Junction) is set to be completed by March 2026, according to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Aimed at easing traffic congestion in one of Pune’s busiest areas, the long-awaited project is expected to make daily travel smoother and safer for thousands of commuters, especially those heading towards the airport, Nagar Road, or Kharadi’s IT hubs.

The contract for construction was awarded to S.M.C. Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd., with Pune-based consultancy firm Creation Engineering Pvt. Ltd. overseeing the work. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹109.15 crore, covering GST, labour, insurance, and other expenses. Notably, this includes the construction of a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) on the Pune-Miraj railway line at Ghorpadi (Gate No. 586).

Project details

The project includes a 630.12-meter-long flyover (including approach roads) with a central concrete stretch of 291 meters. The approach roads will connect from Alandi (197.12 meters) and Lohgaon (142 meters), with a uniform width of 7 meters. Additionally, a 595-meter-long grade separator will be constructed, featuring approach roads from Alandi (185 meters), Lohgaon (150 meters), and Yerwada (140 meters), all 7 meters wide.

Both structures are designed to meet current traffic needs while accommodating future public transport, including Metro line provisions for seamless integration. Major traffic congestion, especially during peak hours, is expected to be reduced, improving travel time, fuel consumption, and connectivity across northeast Pune.

Prioritizing pedestrian safety, existing footbridges will be upgraded for better access and security. With a 24-month timeline, including monsoon delays, PMC aims to deliver the project on schedule as part of its broader strategy to build future-ready infrastructure for Pune’s growing population.
