Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have busted a gang involved in illegally filling domestic gas cylinders from a tanker near Bhose village on the Chakan–Shikrapur Road. Three people were arrested during an early morning raid on Tuesday (31st March).
The accused have been identified as Ambadas Rohidas Gade (42), Akshay Ramesh Mungse (25), and Navnath Ankush Hojage (34). The operation was carried out by the officials of the North Chakan Police Station (under the Pimpri-Chinchad Police Commissionerate) after receiving specific information about the illegal activity.
According to police reports, the gang was siphoning gas from a tanker parked near the Indian Oil Gas Plant area. The accused allegedly broke the tanker seal and used black nozzle pipes to transfer gas into domestic cylinders.
Officials said the activity was extremely dangerous as it was carried out without any safety measures. The act posed a serious risk to the accused as well as people in the surrounding area. Police believe the stolen gas was meant to be sold at higher rates for profit.
A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Police Constable Bhairoba Yadav. During the raid, police seized property worth ₹49.57 lakh, including the gas tanker and equipment used in the operation. Further investigation is underway.
