Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a citywide survey to identify suspected cases of filariasis and detect microfilariae as part of efforts to eliminate the disease by 2027. The survey is being conducted from August 16 to 31 under the National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme.
Health workers are visiting households and communities to identify people showing symptoms associated with filariasis and collect information required for further diagnosis and treatment. The civic administration has appealed to residents to cooperate with survey teams and provide accurate health-related information.
Dr Vaishali Jadhav, Officer in Charge, MSU, and Assistant Health Officer in the Communicable Disease Control Department of the PMC, urged citizens not to hide symptoms or hesitate to share information with health workers. “Citizens should come forward voluntarily if anyone in their household or neighbourhood shows symptoms of filariasis. Cooperation with health workers will help in timely diagnosis and ensure that treatment can be started without delay,” Jadhav said.
The PMC has also cautioned citizens against ignoring or concealing symptoms, as delayed identification could increase the risk of complications. Residents have been asked to provide health workers with the necessary information during the survey so that suspected cases can be referred for appropriate examination and treatment.
The civic body said early detection and timely intervention are crucial to achieving the target of eliminating filariasis by 2027.
