Amidst the heavy rains in several districts of Maharashtra and the havoc created by rain in a few tehsils of Pune and Solapur along with Mumbai, several aspirants have demanded postponement of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Mains Examination for the 2024 cycle, scheduled to be held on May 27, 28, and 29, 2025.
On Twitter, several accounts related to the civil services exam have demanded the postponement. Additionally, former Kasba MLA Ravindra Dhangekar has demanded the same.
Taking to X, Dhangekar wrote, "Currently, many districts in the state have been facing flood-like conditions for three consecutive days. Especially in the places where the State Services Main Examination centers are located, a high alert has been declared. This examination will be held for three consecutive days. Given the current situation, the issue of student safety is very serious. Therefore, the Hon'ble Commission should take the initiative and postpone this examination. Otherwise, it is a humble request to provide proper facilities to all the students appearing for this examination. Due to the heavy rains in Maharashtra since yesterday, a state of emergency has been created in many places. The Nira Canal burst yesterday itself, causing a flood-like situation in the area. The Pune-Solapur highway is closed for traffic. It was dark in Mumbai during the day. It has been officially announced that the monsoon has arrived today, the roads are closed, and local train services are disrupted. In such a situation, how can students reach their examination centers? No matter how hard students try, it is very difficult to reach the examination center and have the mindset to go there and take the examination in such a situation. Especially female candidates have to face many difficulties. All candidates have the same right to appear for the examination. It would be unfair to deprive any candidate of their opportunity due to the above-mentioned natural obstacles. It is our humble request that we take a fair and sensitive decision as soon as possible, considering the situation arising in the backdrop of this natural disaster."
Earlier also, the exam was postponed after the protests held by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants in Pune along with a few other places in Maharashtra. The Commission had decided to postpone the State Services Main Examination 2024. Originally scheduled for the last week of April, the examination will now be conducted from May 27 to May 29, 2025.
Meanwhile, Supriya Sule has already demanded the postponement of all important exams. She wrote, "Pune district and its surroundings have been experiencing continuous rainfall for the last three to four days. This has led to a flood situation in many areas. In this situation, students may face difficulties in appearing for engineering department and other exams scheduled for tomorrow. Keeping this in mind, it is my humble request to Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil that he should consider postponing all the exams scheduled for tomorrow, considering the interest of the students. ."
