Amidst the ongoing protest by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants in Pune, the City Police have now started cracking down on illegal competitive exam coaching classes, warning of strict action against those operating without proper permissions or inciting students to protest in Pune.

Pune City Police's Deputy Commissioner of Zone 1, Sandeep Singh Gill, while speaking with Pune Mirror, on Wednesday warned the students and advised them to prioritise their studies and avoid unruly behavior during demonstrations. He also said that protest can be held with due permissions, but students cannot crowd the street every now and then.

Pune Police To Crack Down On Coaching Classes

Meanwhile, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has stated that any coaching classes being run without necessary approvals from the municipal administration or in violation of legal norms will face direct action.

This development comes in the wake of recent student protests near Alka Chowk and the Farsakhana Police Station premises, which continued till midnight and drew significant public and police attention in Pune.

According to information received from sources, the police have information that some coaching class operators and study guides have been instigating students to participate in these protests for their own benefit. In response, a meeting of competitive exam class conductors was held at the Police Commissionerate on Tuesday. They were issued warnings and reminded of the legal requirements they must follow.

The central area of Pune is home to thousands of students preparing for various government competitive exams, many of whom rely on private coaching classes. However, police claim that they have learned that several of these classes are being conducted without proper licenses or safety measures and that some conductors are exploiting the situation to push their agendas.

In the meeting, Commissioner Amitesh Kumar highlighted that action would be taken against those failing to meet basic safety norms, including fire safety, or operating without approvals from civic authorities and local police.

The protests, fueled by discontent over issues such as reduced vacancies for the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) post and concerns about the transparency of the selection process, have gained momentum. Students have also demanded that the MPSC State Services Main Exam be postponed and criticised the handling of the reservation system in the selection process.

As the unrest continues, Pune police have made it clear that those found violating norms or inciting unrest will face strict consequences.
