Epiroc Mining India Pvt Ltd, under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, donated a digital mammography machine and a fully equipped breast cancer diagnosis and treatment lab to Sassoon General Hospital. This initiative will help to provide timely and advanced medical care to underprivileged women.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Epiroc India President Dr Arunkumar Govindarajan, Vice President (Controlling and Finance) Olivia Lönnvik, Sassoon Hospital Dean Dr Eknath Pawar and medical professionals including Dr Girish Bartakke, Dr Arati Kinikar, Dr Kiran Naiknaware, Dr Lata Bhoir, Dr Harish Tatiya and Dr Somnath Salgar.

Speaking at the event, Govindarajan expressed his pride in contributing to the medical sector. “Epiroc has invested ₹1.75 crore to establish this facility, which will enhance early detection and treatment of breast cancer and provide medical care to underprivileged women,” said Govindrajan.

Lönnvik added, “We have a history of collaboration with Sassoon Hospital. Previously, we contributed to ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic and conducted regular blood donation camps.”

Dr Eknath Pawar emphasised the importance of early detection in the fight against breast cancer. “Sassoon Hospital has been conducting breast cancer awareness campaigns for several years, and this new facility will be a lifeline for underprivileged women seeking affordable and timely diagnosis and treatment,” said Pawar.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in strengthening public-private partnerships in the healthcare sector and reinforces the role of corporate social responsibility in improving medical infrastructure.
