Nashik: The Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar is expected to generate economic activity of up to ₹27,000 crore. The estimate has been prepared by deAsra Foundation in partnership with the Nashik Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA).
Officials said the economic impact will come from direct, indirect, and induced spending during the event. Direct spending by visitors is expected to be between ₹8,500 crore and ₹11,000 crore. This will include expenses on food, accommodation, transport, and religious goods.
This spending is likely to create indirect economic activity of around ₹7,830 crore through supply chains such as logistics and services. In addition, an induced impact of about ₹10,530 crore is expected from increased household spending by people who benefit from the Kumbh economy.
Together, these factors are projected to generate a total economic activity of ₹27,000 crore. Officials said that every ₹1 spent by visitors can create more than ₹2 of additional economic activity in the region.
To ensure that local communities benefit, deAsra Foundation and NTKMA are working on a detailed policy framework. The focus is on supporting nano and small businesses.
The plan identifies five key sectors. These include religious retail, food services, accommodation, recreation, and local transport. Under the plan, more than 30,000 people will receive free skill training. Around 5,000 vendor spots will also be created in the Mela area.
The estimates are based on past events. The Nashik Kumbh in 2015 saw around 3 crore visitors. The Prayagraj Mahakumbh in 2025 recorded about 66 crore visitors and a spending of ₹3 lakh crore.
NTKMA Commissioner Shekhar Singh said the Kumbh is not just a religious event but a major economic opportunity. He said the aim is to ensure that local vendors and small businesses benefit from it.
Pradnya Godbole, CEO of deAsra Foundation, said the Kumbh creates a strong multiplier effect. She said proper planning can help distribute the benefits across different sections of society.
The Simhastha Kumbh 2027 will be held between July and September 2027. Preparations and related activities are expected to begin well in advance.
