The rural police carried out two successful operations at different locations. In the first, ganja worth Rs 4 lakh was seized in Yeola, while in the second, a gang of robbers was arrested in Saikheda. District Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil shared the information with the media on Thursday.
About 20 kg of ganja, packed in plastic bags, was seized in the Yeola operation. The contraband’s market value is estimated at Rs 4 lakh. Police arrested Kishore Kalyan Lakare (27) in the case, while the prime accused, Sunil Raghunath Kachre, remains absconding. A minor is also involved in the crime.
In another operation, the rural police arrested a gang linked to multiple robberies in the Saikheda Police Station area. On July 13, the gang allegedly broke into the residence of Rajendra Murkute in Mhalsakhore Shivar, threatened his family, and looted jewellery worth around Rs 3.84 lakh. They also attempted to rob four other houses in the area.
The three arrested - Vishal Bansode (resident of Saine, Taluka Malegaon), Dilip Chavan (resident of Somthane, Taluka Sinnar) and Rahul Chavan (resident of Saikheda) - confessed to the crime during interrogation. Three other associates of the gang are already serving sentences in a robbery case in Raigad. 23 serious offences have been registered against the gang.
