Nashik: A significant development has emerged in the case of self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, which has shaken the entire state of Maharashtra. Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Misar has expressed his inability to represent the SIT in the case against Kharat.

The SIT had formally requested, through a written communication, that Special Public Prosecutor Ajay Misar conduct the prosecution in this matter. However, it has now come to light that Misar declined to take up the case, citing his existing commitments in several high-profile matters, including the 2011 Mumbai serial bomb blast case, the Ravi Pujari case, and other important court proceedings. Due to these ongoing responsibilities, he reportedly stated that he would be unable to devote adequate time to ensure justice in the Kharat case.

Meanwhile, following Misar’s decision, Assistant Public Prosecutor Shailendra Bagde will now present the arguments in the case.

In another major development, while it has been revealed that Ashok Kharat’s assets are allegedly worth hundreds of crores, shocking information has surfaced that he had been filing income tax returns showing an annual income of only ₹12 lakh.

The Income Tax Department also suspects possible GST evasion linked to Kharat’s companies, construction projects, and hardware business. This angle is also likely to intensify the investigation, increasing the possibility of Kharat coming under further scrutiny.
