Nanded: The Bhokar Police have arrested a man for allegedly befriending a minor girl on social media, luring her into a relationship, and subsequently blackmailing and sexually assaulting her, Police Inspector Ajit Kumbhar said.
The accused, identified as Avinash Rajesh Manpure (25), a resident of Renapur, allegedly leaked the 17-year-old victim's private videos online. He was remanded to judicial custody by the court on Wednesday, April 1.
According to police, the accused initiated contact with the victim on Instagram. By gradually gaining her trust, he managed to acquire private photos and videos from her. He then proceeded to sexually assault the minor, repeatedly threatening to circulate her private media if she resisted.
When the victim attempted to distance herself from him, the enraged accused leaked her photos and videos from an Instagram account on March 28, intentionally defaming her. Following the ordeal, the victim's family approached Bhokar Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.
Taking swift action, the police registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him on March 30.
After a two-day police remand, Manpure was produced before the court on Wednesday, where the judge ordered him to be sent to judicial custody. Police Inspector Ajit Kumbhar and Police Head Constable Gurudas Arewar are conducting further investigations into the case.
