Pune's Chandan Nagar Police have arrested a duo who have been accused of murdering a 35-year-old man, officials said on Thursday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Aditya Walhekar (21) and Samarth alias Pappu Sharma (22), residents of Ambedkar Colony in Chandan Nagar, they added.
On August 12, around 8:30pm, a heated argument had taken place between Aditya, Samarth and Sainath. It occurred because Sainath said "I love you" to Aditya's cousin.
Later on the same day, Sainath's body was found unconscious in a cement pipe near Sundarbai Marathe Madhyamik Vidyalaya on Old Mundhwa Road.
When he was taken to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment, the doctors declared him dead. In the post-mortem, it was found that Sainath died due to serious injuries after being brutally beaten.
Senior Police Inspector Seema Dhakne of Chandan Nagar Police Station, along with others, started an investigation.
Dhakne, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said the deceased was residing alone in Chandan Nagar and had no other close blood relatives.
"On August 11, Sainath allegedly molested Aditya's cousin. Angered by it, Aditya and Samarth first beat Sainath with their hands and feet at Ambedkar Colony. After that, Aditya went to his house, brought a hockey stick, and beat Sainath," Dhakne said.
A case of murder has been filed under relevant sections of BNS in Chandan Nagar Police Station.
Further investigation is underway.
