Pune: A 62-year-old man was murdered by suspected burglars in Thorandale village of Ambegaon tehsil, Pune Rural Police said on Wednesday. The incident has created fear among local residents of Ambegaon tehsil.

The victim has been identified as Damodar Jayram Mide. He lived alone in his house in the Pine Mala area of the village. According to police reports, the incident took place when Mide was asleep at home.

Police said that burglars are believed to have entered the house with the intention of committing theft. During the break-in, they reportedly attacked Mide and killed him by hitting his head with a sharp weapon. He died on the spot due to the injuries.

However, police officials reported that it is still not clear if any valuables were stolen from the house. Police officials said they are checking the scene and collecting evidence. A detailed investigation is underway to understand the exact sequence of events.

As soon as the police received information about the incident, a team rushed to the spot. Senior officers also visited the location. Search operations have been launched to trace the suspects involved in the crime.
