“The development schemes and measures are taken to various strata of society through the administration, while journalism provides information about it to the people. Hence, administration and journalism are two wheels of the chariot of society,” opined District Collector Dilip Swami.

He was speaking during the function organized to felicitate journalists on the occasion of Darpan Din held at the district collectorate on Wednesday. Chairman of the Divisional Accreditation Committee Dr. Madhav Savargave, Deputy District Election Officer Devendra Katke, Resident Deputy District Collector Vinod Khirolkar, Deputy District Collector Umakant Pardhi, District Apex Bank Manager Mangesh Kedar, District Information Officer Dr. Milind Dusane, Tehsildar Ramesh Munlod, Information Officer Dr. Meera Dhas, Assistant Director Ganesh Funde, and others were present.

Initially, obeisance was paid to Acharya Balshashtri Jambhekar, and the dignitaries lighted the traditional lamp. The journalists were felicitated for their contribution to the field of journalism.

Role of journalists is even more important: Jambhekar

Swami further said, the time when Jambhekar first started journalism was different from the pre-independence and present eras. "Now, the needs and requirements of the people have changed. Still, the responsibilities of journalists remain the same. People are drifting away from culture and upbringing. Thus, problems like female homicide, sex determination tests, addiction, domestic violence, neglect of elderly parents, and others are coming to the forefront frequently. Only effective laws cannot curb such problems; proper counseling is also needed. Here, the role of journalists is even more important," Swami mentioned.

Dr. Savargave said, the committee established at the government level works for resolving the problems faced by journalists. It is important that proper coordination should be maintained between journalists and the district administration. Journalists Siddharth Godam, Dr. Abdul Kadir, and others also expressed their views. Dr. Dusane made an introductory speech. Kanchan Joshi conducted the proceedings of the function, while Dr. Meera Dhas proposed a vote of thanks.
