Mumbai : The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has directed to the shutdown of Wimpy outlet at Churchgate railway station for the next two days after a Western Railway commuter found a worm in her food (idli) that she ordered from the restaurant on Friday afternoon.
The commuter immediately filed a complaint with IRCTC, after which an enquiry has been initiated into the matter.
Vidya Rana (30), a graphic designer by profession, had come to Wimpy for lunch and was shocked to find a worm in her food after eating a couple of bites.
“I was flabbergasted and scared when I saw worm in my idli. I approached the Wimpy manager but they paid no heed and asked me to order another plate but I refused. I then approached the IRCTC and filed a complaint with them but now I don’t think I will ever be able to eat at the same restaurant,” said Rana.
She added that such incidents shed light on the unsafe conditions under which food is being cooked and served which poses a huge risk to the health of commuters.
Following the incident, the IRCTC said it had taken strict action against the outlet. WR IRCTC public relations officer Pinaki Mariwala said: “After receiving the complaint, we have initiated an enquiry and have directed the outlet to be closed down for the next two days.”
“Further, we have also asked them to clean their outlet properly so that there is hygiene and safety and only after checking the outlet, we will allow them to reopen their shop,” added Mariwala.
