Mumbai : The Bombay High Court on Friday made an oral observation suggesting the members of the bar council to contribute to put up water coolers and water purifiers in various court premises, as the State repeatedly failed to pay for the same.
A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice A K Menon was hearing a suo moto petition on providing basic amenities to lawyers in high court and lower courts.
Advocate S R Nargolkar brought to the notice of the court that water coolers and purifiers are available but have not been installed as yet.It was also brought to the notice of the court that Rs 536.99 lakh have been granted to the court to provide basic amenities but the said amount has not been released by the State. The court has directed the State to make facilities functional and operational. The court also added, the State has not complied with any previous orders. The court further added, there is no need for any order of the court and that this is the obligation and responsibility of the state.
Another PIL asking for Acts and enactments to be updated on the website of the Bombay High Court says that the State is lagging behind.
