Mumbai: A member of the Opposition in the standing committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday raised the issue of de-listing of four hospitals from the from Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) scheme. The Free Press Journal was first to report the story on January 22. Taking cognisance of media reports, the Opposition committee demanded the upgradation of the infrastructure facilities in the four de-listed hospitals — Bhabha Hospital (Kurla), M T Agarwal Municipal General Hospital (Mulund), V N Desai Hospital (Santacruz) and Mahatma Phule Hospital (Vikhroli). Dr Sudhakar Shinde, chief executive officer of MJPJAY had earlier blamed lack of proper infrastructural facilities at these hospitals for the de-listing.
The Congress corporator and the leader of Opposition, Ravi Raja, said, “Many families depend on these medical schemes. It is wrong on the part of officials to de-list them haphazardly.” The Opposition demanded the upgradation of the infrastructure in these four hospitals instead of de-listing. The MJPJAY provides a coverage of all expenses in case of hospitalisation of beneficiary up to `1,50,000 per family, per year. In case of a renal transplant, the upper limit is nearly `2,50,000 for a renal transplant surgery.
