Civic officials emphasise that people should follow the guidelines in order to keep ailments at bay

Mumbai : Fluctuating temperatures and erratic weather conditions have led to a rise in the cases of hepatitis and typhoid in Mumbai.

The civic and government hospitals have registered 159 typhoid and 86 Hepatitis cases in the month of September alone.

Meanwhile, city doctors from various private hospitals also stated that they are witnessing huge number of people turning up with these diseases which are turning out to be a huge cause of concern.

Health experts explained that with changing weather conditions, a human body also starts making changes which makes them more prone to catch a virus or disease. They further add that people are initially turning up with common viral fever and then eventually their health deteriorates and show strong symptoms of hepatitis and typhoid disease.

Dr Chetan Vellani, consultant physician at Kohinoor Hospital said, “I am witnessing huge load of patients with hepatitis and typhoid and the list seems to be never-ending since the past two months. Along with dengue and malaria, these two diseases seem to have gripped the Mumbaikars hard. Also, we need to understand that there is no need for panic among people as the recovery is immediate but only if we start the treatment at the initial stage of the disease.”

Civic officials emphasise that people should follow the guidelines in order to keep diseases at bay. Dr Minny Khetarpal, head of epidemiology cell at BMC said, “We should avoid coming into AC after coming from outside as there is a difference of temperature and should consume water after 15 minutes. Fever should be immediately reported to the doctor and a follow up should be done after two days to keep a tab on the illness.”
