The Government railway police of Kalyan station have arrested two people who used to rob premium range phones of commuters traveling in express trains. The police have seized around 11 mobile phones worth more than Rs 1 lakh from them.

According to the police, the incident took place on June 17, in-between 4 am to 5 am inside Mangala express train. After the train passed Igatpuri railway station Sagir Ahmed, a 35-year-old passenger from Uttar Pradesh complained to the ticket checker about his mobile phone being robbed. "It happened in S8 boggie of the train so he also alerted all the passengers. Accordingly, all of them started searching for the theft in the boogie. Seeing a suspicious person the passenger caught him and handed over to the TC. He was further handed over to the Railway Police force. They got him down at Chiplun and brought to Kalyan. The mobile of Sagir was found with him," said a police officer.

The police said the arrested accused was identified as Arbaz Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, 20, a resident of Mumbra. "He was arrested on June 18 and we recovered the mobile phone from him. On interrogation he revealed his partner's details who accompanied him on the train. Accordingly, a team reached Mumbra and arrested Taslim Shaikh, 22. Both of them confirmed about committing mobile theft in express trains passing through Thane and Kalyan. The accused made use of face mask as it was helpful for them to hide from public attention," said Shardul Walmik, senior police inspector, GRP, Kalyan.

The police have seized 11 mobile phones from the two accused. "We have traced four victims who had lost their mobile phone in the express. We appeal to people who have lost their phone in express trains to approach with details to get their phone back," added Walmik.
