Dombivli: On the occasion of state Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray's birthday, Shiv Sena party supporters and members distributed petrol at Rs 1 per litre in Dombivli as relief to citizens from the hiked fuel prices. Around 1200 motorists received petrol at a rupee per litre per person, marking it a symbolic protest by Shiv Sena.
A huge queue was noticed on Sunday at the Usma petrol pump at Dombivli MIDC. The petrol was distributed by Shivsena corporator from Dombivli, Dipesh Mhatre and Pooja Mhatre including Yogesh Mhatre, Kalyan Yuva Sena assembly officer. The petrol was distributed for two hours from 10 am to 2 pm.
"With the rising price of petrol every next day people can't afford it. No one is ready to see the problem faced by common man. A resident of Dombivli daily travels for work to Mumbai. With trains not allowed for private sectors, commuters prefer going by their own vehicles. To travel to Mumbai daily, three to four litres of petrol is required which costs around Rs 400," said Dipesh Mhatre, a Shiv sena corporator explaining it was an relief for the motorists as the queue kept increasing.
Dipesh said initially as an symbolic protest we decided to distribute petrol at Rs 1 from 10am to 12pm. "First we decided to distribute it among the first 500 people. But later, with the crowd increasing, the time was extended till 2pm and around 1200 people took the benefit of petrol at Rs 1per litre per person," he added explaining how people are effected with the rising price that reached Rs 102 per litre in Mumbai.
