Thane: 52-year-old man wanted in 100 cases arrested by Khadakpada police

Kalyan: A 52-year-old man wanted in more than 100 cases of mobile, chain snatching theft was arrested by the Khadakpada police,officials said.

The police said, the accused identified as Haiyder Tabiz Irani, 52, is said to be the head of the Irani community settled near Ambivali railway station near Kalyan. The Khadakpada police received a tip off and set a trap to catch hold of Haiyder.

A team comprising Yogesh Gaikar, Police Sub-inspector, Khadakpada laid a trap and raided the locality and arrested him. "He was arrested on June 10 and after producing in court he was remanded in police custody till June 14," said Ashok Pawar, Senior Police Inspector, Khadakpada police station.

The police said Haiyder, the accused, had different cases of mobile snatching, chain snatching and cheating registered against him. The 100 cases include 25 cases in Kalyan-Dombivli area, while 30 cases in Mumbai among other cases in Maharashtra and other states.

"It was found during investigation about Haiyder being the mastermind behind attacks on police. On March 2, 2021 the Vasai police raided the Ambivali area to arrest an accused. After they detained the accused, a mob from the community attacked the police forcing them to release the accused. The police investigated the case following which it was revealed that Haiyder helped the accused run away. Haiyder's son too has a history of such crimes and has been arrested by the police," said a police official.

The police said in the past few months 10 to 12 attacks were reported on different police teams who had come to arrest the accused in different cases from Mumbai, Thane and other areas.

"As soon as the accused is detained by the police, the mob from the community starts attacking the police by pelting stones or beating the police officials, forcing them to release the accused", an official said.

"Most of the time the police get injured and its a planned attack by the locals. With the numerous attacks on different police teams. Most of the city or district police have started raiding with proper team including women officers to control the women in the mob", the official said.
