After four civic engineers from the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) were suspended for the poor condition of roads, the civic body has now sent notices to the contractors responsible for the maintenance of the road.
The action was taken by TMC municipal commissioner, Dr. Vipin Sharma. The authorities have warned the contractors that they fail to maintain and repair the road an FIR will be registered against the firm of the contractor and the firm will be added to the blacklist of the corporation.
The suspension of officials came soon after guardian minister Eknath Shinde carried out a survey of the city road and ordered the TMC chief to take action against the officials and contractors responsible for the negligence.
The TMC officials recently issued a notice to a contractor firm i.e Bitcon India Infrastructure Developers Private Limited. The contractor was asked to look after the road repairs from Shaktipeeth Manpada to Naglabunder Malprakriya Kendre and from Uni Apex Company to Shiv-Mandir Gaikmukh. “Due to unrepaired roads which have resulted in huge potholes, the citizens are not able to use the service road. Citizens traveling in the city limits are forced to come to the highway due to bad roads, resulting in traffic snarls and inconvenience to the citizens,” added the officials from TMC.
Sources from the TMC said the work on the road was carried out by the contractor a few months ago. “It was clearly found during the inspection that the work carried out was of poor quality, which resulted in potholes and bad shape. If he doesn't repair it, the authorities will not pass the bill amount for the work, which is mentioned in the notice,” added the official.
“The contractor is also asked to reply within 3 days as to why the authorities should not take action against them. Also, with the reply the contractor should also finish off the work of the repair in their respective wards,” added the official.
