Twelve out of seventeen unauthorized buildings have been demolished by the Encroachment Department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) over the past five to six days. The remaining five buildings are scheduled for demolition in the coming week, officials said.

The demolition drive was launched following a High Court order concerning illegal constructions in the Khan Compound area along Mumbra-Shil Road in Thane. Civic officials confirmed that a total of 12 illegal buildings had been razed by Wednesday.

Heavy police presence was deployed during the demolition to maintain law and order. Following the court’s directive, the TMC's Encroachment Department, under police protection and in the presence of the Municipal Commissioner, initiated action against all 17 illegal structures in the Shil area.

Bulldozers were first deployed on Friday, and the drive continued through Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday—despite public holidays and heavy rainfall.

Shankar Patole, Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment Department, stated that the operation continued on Wednesday amid persistent rain. "The action began at 11 a.m. Despite some challenges due to the weather, we proceeded," he said.

According to TMC officials, in a few cases, residents were unwilling to vacate the premises, and they had to be escorted out under police supervision before the demolition could take place.
