Thane Municipal Corporation Collects Over ₹100 Crore In Water Tax, Disconnects 9,603 Defaulters' Taps

Thane Municipal Corporation has initiated a major crackdown for the recovery of water arrears after recovering over Rs 100 crore from the Thane Municipal Corporation area. Moreover, they have disconnected 9,603 water taps, seized 2,024 water pumps, sealed 547 pump room properties, and served notices to 9,923 defaulters.

Thane: Thane Municipal Corporation has initiated a major crackdown for the recovery of water arrears after recovering over Rs 100 crore from the Thane Municipal Corporation area. Moreover, they have disconnected 9,603 water taps, seized 2,024 water pumps, sealed 547 pump room properties, and served notices to 9,923 defaulters.

TMC has launched a recovery arrears drive in the Thane Municipal Corporation. The civic body stated that they issued notices to 9,923 defaulters, disconnected 9,603 tap connections from the areas, seized 411 motor pumps, and sealed 547 pump rooms. The municipal corporation's water bill amount is around Rs 225 crore, out of which Rs 76 crore is arrears, and the current year's bill amount is Rs 148 crore.

Vinod Pawar, civic officer of TMC, said that so far, they have recovered a total of Rs 106 crore in water taxes. We will take stringent action against defaulters, those who did not pay their dues on time. Moreover, the water supply will be disconnected after disconnecting their tap connection. Commissioner Saurabh Rao has given instructions to take strict action against those who have not been paying their dues.

The Additional Municipal Commissioner of TMC, Sandeep Malvi, is reviewing the recovery of dues continuously from their concerned department. According to TMC officials, the water bill recovery campaign has begun, and a target has been set for weekly recovery of water bills. They will file criminal cases against those who reconnect their water connections after being disconnected by TMC officials while finding defaulters.

TMC officials said that they appeal to the citizens to cooperate with the concerned department and pay their dues on time to avoid any action.
