Thane, April 2, 2026: In a strategic move to bolster regional safety, the Thane District Administration has launched a comprehensive ‘Familiarization Exercise Program’ across the district. Conducted under the guidance of District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal, the initiative runs from April 1 to April 15, 2026.
Joint training with NDRF and SDRF teams
The program features a specialised contingent of 25 experts from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). This team, including one Gazetted Officer and 22 personnel, is tasked with training local authorities and grassroots volunteers on advanced rescue techniques and emergency coordination.
Key highlights of the initiative
Collaborative Training: Integration of government officials, Police Patils, Civil Defence, and ‘Aapda Mitra-Sakhi’ volunteers.
Strategic Reach: Sessions are scheduled across all major corporations, including Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, and rural pockets like Shahapur and Murbad.
Technical Empowerment: Focus on modern equipment handling and streamlining response times during natural or man-made calamities.

Residential Deputy Collector Dr. Sandeep Mane emphasised that this synergy between central agencies and local volunteers is a "milestone" for district security.
